Importance of the Land
In addition to the location, the land also refers to the group of natural or cultural variables involved in the primary wine production activities which permit obtaining a specific type of grape, differentiated and unique, that can bestow its personality into the final wine result.

We consider the fundamental variables of the land to be the following:

- Climate: The climate and its main parameters, like temperature, precipitation and sunshine are crucial in defining the possibilities a given site is apt for the production of high quality grapes.

- Temperatures: The temperature of the production cycle mainly influences the parameters of grape composition. Medium temperatures determine the adaptability of the different varieties to the area. Very hot areas for example will permit every variety’s sugar level to mature, regardless their distinct requirements, although in general terms, warm zones yield grapes from which low concentrated and slightly aromatic wines are obtained.

In Tupungato, the moderate temperatures during the period of vine growth are sufficiently high, allowing the adaptation of the majority of the fine varietals. The highest quality grapes for every variety can be achieved by regulating production.

Due to the altitude in this area, during the night the temperatures are cool in summer permitting a low breathing rate of the leaves, which in turn favors the accumulation of color and aroma in the clusters. Another important aspect of the temperature to take into account is the risk of frost which causes the loss of production; or in the case of early frosts, a reduced cycle. In this sense, positioning the vineyard in a protected Andean valley decreases the danger of suffering this type of frosts since the overcooled air during calm nights tends to flow towards the lower regions that are most affected by this phenomenon.

- Rain: The precipitation pattern in Tupungato is similar to the north-central region of Mendoza, with average annual values ranging around 200 mm. This is important to keep in mind when applying a minimum sanitary program.

- Relative Humidity: very low during most of the growth period; favoring production of healthy grapes.

- Insolation: the intense luminosity of the high Andean valleys is well known and is due to a clean and low density atmosphere. This characteristic notably favors the photosynthetic efficiency of the vineyards originating a higher accumulation rate of the positively synthesized products and a larger production than can be found in less diaphanous zones. This is evident in the impressive colors seen in our grapes and in the aromas in the varieties, such as sauvignon blanc.

- Soils: the evenness of our profound and loose soils optimizes the uniformity of the production per plot, which in turn simplifies the preventive application of fungicides at any given moment of the year.

Very permeable soils assure the opportunity for harvest, even in more humid years, decreasing the risks of fungal infirmity and rotting.

- Human Resources: in addition to providing all the necessary services that enable wine exploitation, the area of the Uco Valley witnessed the birth of vine harvesting over a century ago. For this reason, wine culture is deeply ingrained in its inhabitants who in turn constitute the basic and strongest resource for carrying out the activities dedicated to wine production.
